This is a three day event. The downtown area is closed for the festival and craft show. The Monitor and and Virginia have a mock battle on Lake De Soto ( the same lake we walk around daily with Max). Olustee Battle Reenactment is held this weekend where people are bused in to watch.
The parade is held on a Saturday. This year Jeff and Jamie, the kind people who shared Grandma Dorothy Woodward-Andrews "Sour Cream Apple Pie" invited us to a luncheon and to view to parade from Jeff's old office.
Thank you Jamie and Jeff for a enjoyable morning!

What great photos Linda. How was the weather that day? If it was warm, those people must have been sweltering in those costumes. Some of those dresses are so pretty with the hoop skirts. Can you imagine sitting DOWN in those things? Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteI love townwide celebrations like that. Did you go to the craft show? I love looking at homemade things at those. They don't do things like that around here any more. The closest I get to townwide ANYTHING is the townwide yard sales twice a year here.
Yes, we walked Max around the craft show. He was getting so much attention we needed to head back to the car. He would of gotten so full of himself with everyone telling him how nice he is- LOL
DeleteWhat a great time you must have had. Those costumes are awesome. Wonder if some of them are really from back in the days of the war. I also like town wide celebrations. Must be so nice to live in a small town and have these great days like this.
ReplyDeleteI also like going to arts and craft shows. When they have the Sugarloft Craft show here, my friend and I always go. It is so wonderful that some people are so talented.
Thanks for sharing this Linda.....it is fun to imagine what things were like way back then.
Oh it a big thing to dress up. I went to a library program and a few people dressed up for that. There's a fast food place that gives a 10% discount if you come in dressed up.
DeleteEveryone is dressed as southern belle- and the guys in confederate uniforms- you don't see any Yankee's!
Great pictures as always, Linda! I'm thinking this was a very fun weekend with many things to see and do.
ReplyDeleteIt was something different.
DeleteLooks like fun. My daughter is in Orlando.

DeleteThanks for stopping by.
