February Books

I finished the last of the Daisy Tea Garden  series. Book eight is suppose to be out in May so will be looking for it. Cute book with some pretty good recipes. I made Iris's Lemon Tea Cakes. My taste tester hubby thought they were good.

Miss Graham's Cold War Cookbook-     is different, a quiet slant on a spy story, quite powerful and very effective. The recipes were either sad affairs, a reflection of the deprivation or somewhat of a mystery at times, but they provided a cohesive thread to knit this very interesting story together.

The Beekeeper of AleppoWhat a thought provoking and haunting piece of fiction, beautifully written and the reader does get a horrifying glimpse into the refugee and asylum crisis and the challenges and heartbreak families caught up in this nightmare in Syria have trying to flee to safety.

The Last Bookseller- I loved going into bookstores. I remember going into a B&N in the city and spent HOURS checking out everything they had. Then I found The Strand- be still my heart! This book was very entertaining read giving fascinating insights into the dying business of selling secondhand books. The huge difference the internet made in how this business is run was eye-opening, and I enjoyed his rambling tangents on the criminal element among booksellers, and establishing a book town.

  1. Now I am going to have to check these out. I have found lots of good books at the second hand book store. Monica gets some of her book club books second hand from Amazon. Guess this is putting lots of smaller second hand shops out of business. I like going into libraries and looking at their for sale sections. I just finished a book on Kindle that had recipes from the story in it. I thought of you right away.
