Recap January

I don't know if I will recap every month this year but this month certainty had quite a few things going on.

New Years Eve was VERY loud. I think people in our area decided that the  six hundred dollars from their stimulus check would be a great way to display that the year was over.  Seven years  in Florida, this was the first one the fireworks were over the top. Fireworks are legal for New Years and the 4th of July. We were very grateful for the rain we had during the day.

During my morning walk Mey came out and wanted to join me.  She said she has no strength in her legs and had to use a cane. At night she has to use the wall to help her get to the bathroom. She thought she would be able to walk further but I strongly encouraged her to take it slow. It's awful what the virus did to her body. Her eyes are just starting to focus again. She said that scared her the most, not being able to see.

Never did I EVER think I would see terrorist's go into the nations capital and riot and destroy on January 6th. They were seating themselves at the vice president's post on the Senate floor, breaking windows and doors, and climbing the statues in Statuary Hall and trying to steal as much as they could and if they didn't steal it they broke whatever was in their way. The date will be added to one of America's darkest days.

Hero's- there are many of them now but on January 6th it was two female senate aides who transported the crucial electoral ballot boxes out of the Capitol building before rioters had a chance to get their hands on the votes in an attempt to overthrow the 2020 election. President-Elect Biden's first Medal of Freedom awards should go to these brave senate aides

Jan. 15th I called to put us on the covid vaccine list. We are number 4,999. I should clarify that, I'm 4,999 and Gabe is 5,000- LOL. They are out of the vaccine so we have to wait to see if our governor will get more.

We finally made up our mind to go out and buy a new mattress. The one we have needs to be replace. It wasn't that old. They sure don't make them like they use to!

I'm a multitasker - one of my favorite ways to multitask is to listen to books and garden.

This month I have a few books that I really enjoyed.

The first was The Daughters Of Yalta -  several fascinating women: Sara Churchill (daughter of Winston Churchill), Anna Roosevelt (daughter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt), and Kathleen Harriman (daughter Averell Harriman in this case envoy to Britain and later USSR amongst many other important appointed positions within the American government). It was wonderful to learn so much about so many strong, fiery, intelligent, and impressive women. It was about their relationships with their parents, each other, and the pool of significant others sprinkled throughout these families. It was beyond amazing. I gave it 5 stars

Next was The Big Finish-Duffy is an elderly feisty curmudgeon that lives in an assisted living home with his best friend and roommate, Carl. Then one day, Carl’s granddaughter Josie unexpectedly shows up in the most unexpected way through their bedroom window. What comes next is an adventurous, emotional, and sometimes humorous plan of action that Duffy enlists in order to help change Josie’s worrisome and troubling ways that Duffy is all too familiar with. This one I gave 5 stars also.

KT from Stumbled onto the Blogwagon recommended The Day the World Came to Town.  I knew about the Play "Come from Away" that is playing in NYC but never heard of this book. I downloaded ASAP. This heartwarming book about how the town of Gander, Newfoundland (a town of only 10,000 people) took in and took care of over 6000 airplane passengers stranded there after 9-11, when U.S. airspace was shut down after the attacks, is an affirming look at the goodness of people. This book was excellent!! I use to tell Gabe I wish we could find a town like Mulberry. Now I know for sure there is a town that actually exists with tons of kindness and love for others. Gander,  Newfoundland.

 These are a worth mentioning-

The Good Good Pig

Dear Mrs. Bird

  1. I must admit that January was a month for the record books, and not in a good way. Enjoyed your recap. Let's hope that February will be a much better month, and that you will move up on the list for the vaccine. Everyone seems to be having problems getting an appointment. Will have to check out the books you read. I read on my Kindle now, it is a new favorite of mine. I hope Mey is on the way to much better days. Enjoy sleeping on your new mattress. Mine is not new, and I should replace it.
    Stay safe and well.
