I bought a few poinsettias last Thanksgiving at Lowe's. It was a black friday sale and I think I paid 99 cents for each one.
They were small and I kept them inside all winter. When it warmed up I put one in a pot and moved it outside. The other one I kept in the house and later planted it.
The one in the pot was watered by sprinklers , the one planted in the sand ( soil is awful around here) depended on the rain.
I wanted the one in the pot to bloom. I moved it in and out of the garage and one day I saw the one in the back had red flowers! That was it for babying the one in the pot, it was now on it's own.
I'll pull the one out of the soil before we get a frost and put it in a pot. I don't want it to die, it's proven to be a survivor.
The photo below is the poinsettia when I planted it
You have DEFINITELY got a magic green thumb Linda-those plants look so healthy and happy. They'd have been goners if I had them in my possession. I don't have patience with plants like that.....vegetable plants I sort of do because they produce food. I need flowers and such that tend to themselves and multiply. Perennials are my friends....just ask the lily of the valley that's taking over the front garden. :)
ReplyDeletewish my veggies were ok!!!!! I'm working on fixing them- I hope
DeleteI never have luck with Poinsettia. have you seen the one with the curled flowers? Randall takes care of the flowers most times because I work so much I tend to forget them. I had more time when I worked nights because I could never fall asleep when I got home. Frost almost killed my plumeria's and now we keep them in pots because we can move them into the (monster) garage. the plant you babied has so many leaves and will do good too, wait and see
ReplyDeleteNo, would love to get one! Plumeria would never make it around here.
DeleteLinda, you have such a way with plants. What do you do? I can't grow anything. I do have 2 bamboo plants that are thriving. I will have to move them to a warmer place once the weather gets colder. Your plants look so alive !!! Lily of the Valley is a great one. Wish I had them here.
ReplyDeleteMy Lily of the valley is doing so well at home
