This recipe from Bangor, Maine Daily news newspaper, Aug 8, 2007 was something on the top of the list to try.
The first time I had wasabi I had no idea what it was like. After that first taste, was hooked. They never give me enough when I ordered sushi. I always ask for more.
If you want to try a different cole slaw- this is the one.
For the salad:
6 cups thinly sliced green cabbage (about 1/2 head)
1 cup shredded carrots
3 tablespoons sliced scallion greens or parsley
For the dressing:
2 1/2 tablespoons water
5 teaspoons wasabi powder
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
1/3 cup mayonnaise ( used plain Greek yogurt)
1/4 cup canola oil or grapeseed oil
Several drops hot sauce ( used Dave's Insanity hot sauce)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Combine the cabbage, carrots and scallions
or parsley in a large bowl and set aside.
Combine the water and wasabi powder in a small bowl
and mix until a paste forms. Set aside.
In another small bowl, whist together the vinegar and
sugar until the sugar dissolves. Whisk in the mayonnaise,
oil hot sauce. Add the wasabi paste, and salt and pepper.
Mix well. Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes.
Just before serving, toss the dressing with the slaw.
