I know you could do it. You are so talented and it wouldn't take you long to make something just as beautiful. You also have someone to make the quilt for and I bet she would treasure it.
The Quilts will always be special to me. Especially those that are all hand made without using a sewing machine. I can almost hear the ladies talking away as they make them. It saddens me thinking of the Quilt my grandma had made squares for and Mom had those squares in a shoe box for years. When she showed them to me , I just had to finish it for Grandma. When I laid them out on my floor to see how my idea looked they just wouldn't go together. I cried and finally looked toward the heavens and said. Grandma I need your help. After I said that I laid it out on the floor again and it went together for me. I finished sewing it together and had Mom and my sisters come over and we had fun and told stories of when we remembered seeing my Grandma and Grandpa and Mom wearing clothes with some of those pieces. I miss that time with Mom. Needless to say after Mom used that quilt , my sisters and Mom surprised me with that quilt. It was so thread bare after I used it for a few years that I lovingly packed it away to keep it safe.I ptay if anything happens to me it is taken care of by my sons . I would like it to go to which ever Grand Daughter would appreciate it.
Dottie- sorry it took awhile to get back to you. My Internet isn't working right and guess since it's so early in the morning I'm able to get on.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. As you know I don't own a machine and my eyes aren't the best but the little quilts I make, each stitch is a little love put in it.
Dottie, this is such a heartwarming story of your quilt. How wonderful you were able to finish the quilt. I can't imagine sewing all of this by hand. Even a sewing machine is like unreal to me. So wonderful that you have this quilt to pass down to your granddaughter. I just love these stories, they make me happy.
Thank you Myra. I do hope my Grand Daughter will take good care of the Quilt. It would be passed down to the 5th generation of females . Seeing I only had sons.
This quilt is beautiful. Is this the one your quilting group did? I bet the 2 rows are the ones you did. Woooowoooo. you are doing so well.
ReplyDeleteNo. This was and all the quilts in the photos were at a quilt show. I wish I could sew like that
DeleteEvery time I see quilts I think I want to jump in and give it a try...heaven knows I've got everything I need...except the brains!
ReplyDeleteThose quilts are beauties! I do love quilt shows...so much inspiration around every corner....

ReplyDeleteMy sisters, Mom, and I tied that quilt off together. I meant to say. I wanted them all to have part in that quilt. I know Grandma was there with us.
