Strawberry Applesauce

I found the recipe on Tip Garden. I made it when we were in Florida .

Two days before we returned to  Long Island, I had to pick up a few things in Walmart for the trip home. On the way out I saw the strawberries and they were on sale. My magic word!

Gabe thought I was crazy to make it since there was only two days left before we were on the road home but I assured him the applesauce would be gone.

As usual I was right and enjoyed it.

Ingredients:

4 apples- peeled and chopped
2 cups Strawberries- washed and sliced
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water

Directions:

Combine all the  ingredients in large saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low and simmer 10-15 minutes till fruit is soft and cooked.

Remove from heat, and cool slightly.

Add ingredients to  food processor and pulse to desired consistency.

Store in refrigerator

  1. Well SHOOT....I had strawberries but used them in the fruit salad I made on Saturday. Why the HECK did that small grocery store in the next town close? Its replacement can't open SOON ENOUGH for me. If it was open now? I'd be getting in the car, grabbing a box of berries and making this post haste because I have apples that I need to use. DARN IT! It looks delicious Linda and I can't wait to try it. I know both Bob and I would LOVE it.

    1. You know how Gabe is about taking stuff home. When I was making it I knew I would eat all of it. I DID ask him if he wanted any and he turned it downed.

It's so good nice and cold!

    1. I love easy. I also like a thicker applesauce so if you like it thinner add a little more liquid.

    1. Hey GF- you KNOW why I made it. I had apples left and really did not want to take all of them home. I bought the apples on sale ( what else) and you know me and a sale!

      Yes, easy and it's good.

      Thanks for the share

  10. I picked two gallons of fresh strawberries a few weeks ago (I wrote about that here) and still have quite a lot in the freezer. Do you think this would be as good if I thawed some out? I'd love to try this recipe out, but I want to use up what I have before I buy more fresh berries.

    1. Thanks for the link to the post which I enjoyed.

I've frozen berries once and when I thawed them there was quite a bit of liquid. I would only use fresh berries but if you try it with frozen I would love to know how it came out.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    2. I'm thinking if you thaw and strain as much liquid off as you can, you may be fine, but may need to cook it longer, so maybe drop the temp down too so as not to scorch it or anything, just slow and low till desired consistency? I mean how bad could a failure be? Just use it in smoothies, right?
