Weeds Be Gone!

This was on facebook and I wasn't sure how many of you saw it.

I haven't made up a batch but it's a lot safer then some other products out there!

Plan to use it in Florida and will let you know how it works.

Weed Be Gone

1 Gallon Vinegar

2 Cups Epson Salts

1/4 Cup Original Blue Dawn Dish Soap

Mix and spray in the morning after the dew has evaporated.

This solution can be harmful to grass. I use it on my sidewalk cracks, landscape boarders, and other areas where grass, flowers won't be affected. It works really well!!!

  2. That's good to know-we have some cracks in the sidewalk I'm forever pulling weeds up out of-will have to grab some regular Dawn dish detergent this weekend at the grocery store and make up a small batch of this to try.

    Thanks Linda! :)

  3. I did see this on FB also. I was wondering if it would be safe for Pets. I really need to use a weed killer, but didn't know if it would be ok with Chase around. He is always in the yard.

  4. Sounds like a good idea. Ray is a wild guy when it comes to weed killer. If a bit is good, a whole lot more is better! :)

    1. Thank you for stopping by Julia- I looked it up and amazon has it but the price is outrageous! I buy it for 1.99 on sale and it's the only dish washing soap I use. It's also great on many, many other things.

      Here's the UK amazon link-http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dawn-Dishwashing-Liquid-Original-Scent/dp/B001XQ7LOS

Hope to hear from you again.

    2. Yes it will kill plants next to your weeds You can paint it on the weeds
It will wash into the surrounding soil so use it carefully
also Do NOT use regular salt (NaCL)
      Epsom Salt is Magnesium Sulfate
Agricultural Vinegar is more concentrated and more effective
REMEMBER Tall these ingredients here are all still still a chemicals --Use judiciously!!

    2. can you use table salt in place of epsom salt?

    3. Pam

I never used table salt in this- the magnesium ions I believe help. Sea salt carries most of the same components as epsom salts but epsom salt is the only salt I used.

    1. I haven't used it in my bed because they have extra mulch and I always put down newspaper first.

I spray it the driveway and sidewalk.

  17. Hello Linda! Does it matter if I spray full sun or should I wait until closer to sun down? How long does it take for the weeds to die? I read on other pins (about this same combo) that it only takes hours to see results. Although I sprayed this morning at 10 and it's now 5pm and they look the same. Should I just give it more time? I need to spray my whole yard but I don't want my money wasted on something that isn't going to work. Thanks!

    1. Hi Lena

As mentioned I spray it on my sidewalk and driveway. I don't have a time when I spray, it's usually when I can't stand the weeds- LOL.

It doesn't kill them right away, I don't know of anything that does.

Let be know how it works out, ok?

I also would love it if you became my 86th follower on my blog:-)

    2. Linda!
I was just wondering if it's best to spray when it's hot or later in the evening when it's cooler. If the time of day makes it more/less effective.
How long before your weeds died? Days? Weeks?
So far (I sprayed yesterday morning) they look the same. 🙁😕
      I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for your quick response! 👍🏼

    3. Honestly I didn't really check how long it took, if new ones popped up I would spray again but most of the time I didn't have to.

I use it in Florida and it's hot all the time! I'm a morning person so I went out in the morning before my yoga class.

    2. It would kill grass b/c it has vinegar. If you have weeds in grass then you have to spray it on the specific weed and not a general spray all over the area. This would work the best for driveways, walkways, etc.

  22. Thank You, the weed killer recipe works on most plants. The white vinegar is an acid, Yes acid burns the plant. A little Epson salt (tsp) is good for your plants it adds magnesium to the soil for plant to grow. A lot kills the roots. Salt can kill the biology in the soil. For cracks and sidewalks no problem. Dawn soap help adheres the solution to the plants and any biodegradable dish soap will work. All ingredients are biodegradable. If you sprayed a plant that you made a mistake spraying. Hose the plant down with water right away to dilute the solution. Always spray in the morning of a dry day. The plants are cooler and are not closed up to prevent evaporation of the days heat. Good luck with this recipe.

  25. I use pickling vinegar as it is stronger. 7% vs 5% seems to do a better job.

  26. Will it kill honeysuckle vine? if so I need to spray at least one sprayer full each day. Thanks to the game warden THACKER who brought it in to make foodplots for the deer ,we are being invaded by the damn stuff because the birds eat the seed then poop the seed everywhere. I wish we could tie him up in a patch of it and make him eat nothing but honeysuckle vine .

    1. I don't use it on the grass. I only use it where the weeds pop up between the sidewalk and in the driveway. I'm pretty sure it would kill the weeds but also any grass around it.
