Depos Favorite Baked Beans

I don't know why but on the way back to NY all I could think about was Depo's Baked Bean recipe. I made it quite a few times and just wanted that sucker in the oven so I could taste it again.

One thing I always have plenty of is baked beans. My friend Mary has a house in upstate NY and Grandma Browns Baked Beans is famous in that area. Mary knows I like beans and when she comes back to the island she brings me a few cans. I even have Grandma Brown in Florida that I managed to sneak into the truck.

This recipe is on the top of my favorites for baked beans. Thank you Depo! The recipe is on the first page and it's the fourth one from the top. You might want to check out other recipes that Depo has made, they are all winners.

Since it's Memorial Day weekend it was the perfect time to share this recipe.

Ingredients:

2 cans pork and beans *
1 cup brown sugar ( used 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup  cola ( you can use diet- I used regular coke)
1 small onion,diced
2 tsp. dry mustard (  you can use yellow or even a flavored mustard)
2 strips bacon, cut into 1 in. pieces ( didn't use- usually I fry up a small amount of ground beef. I added some summer sausage that was hanging around and needed to use it up)

directions:

Preheat oven to 300 degrees

Mix the beans, brown sugar, ketchup, Cola, onion and dry mustard in a medium size bowl and place in a three cup casserole dish. Prepare the dish with non stick spray before adding the beans- easier clean up.

Bake at 300 for 1 1/2-2 hrs.

Campbell's pork and beans are 11 ounces. If I were using only Campbell's I would use 3 cans.  Grandma Brown's beans are 16 ounces.

  1. I love baked, baked beans. Nothing is better than baked beans baked in the oven. I have made something similar to this recipe. I also like to cut up hot dogs and bake them along with the beans. Thanks for reminding me about the baked beans Linda. I am going to have to make this recipe. Never made it with cola before. Happy Memorial Day to all !!!
