There is a really beautiful up close of the nest. Tiny strands of spider web wrapped around the lichen. Also in the nest: other birds feathers and their dogs' fur.
From what I've read the eggs take about 3 weeks to hatch , then the babies take about 3 weeks to grow up and move out.
I hope you take the time to look at the wonderful photos
Awww, this was so awesome. How amazing that the nest was so tiny, and the 2 of them fit in at even 3 weeks. I hope they lived a long life after they flew away. I felt so bad for the mom. It was so wonderful to see how they grew. Thanks Linda, this made my morning.
ReplyDeleteI love humming birds and usually see them a few times each summer. They are surprisingly feisty and will defend their feeder from all other humming birds. It is fun to watch, with all their charges and air displays.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh what amazing photos. We have hummingbirds come when the hostas out front bloom-they love those. I love watching them too. Imagine having a nest that close that you're eye to eye with it when you walk out your front door. I didn't think they would build a nest that close to a house. They looks kind of cramped in the nest toward the end. What fun it must have been watching them grow too. Love the photo with their little mouths open shortly after they hatched. Those babies were HUNGRY!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful to see. We have a couplee that comes .I planted a honey suckle and they finally found it . The flowers that fall to the ground is food for a cute bunny that lives in the back yard .I enjoy watching them both when they bless me with a visit. Thank you Linda for yet another beautiful find.
