A true love story

Gabe and I have been together 38 years. He informs me frequently that we have 12 more to 50! Where does time go.
The only good advice my grandmother gave me was to go to the gas station where Gabe worked. It was the cheapest in town but she didn't know the cutest guy in town was pumping gas. That's how I met Gabe.

The couple above is Helen and Kenneth Felumlee and they were married 70 years. Kenneth passed away at 91 April 12th and Helen joined her beloved the next day.

Here's an article on the Felumlee's. We should all be that lucky.

I also wanted to mention advice given to me by a Dr. that I worked for. Life throws things at you all the time and in the long run those things are nothing. The only thing that matters is the love and health of family.

    1. Morning Paddi- Thanks, I got very lucky when I met Gabe. When I first saw him my eyes just about bugged out, he was and still is to me the best looking guy around. At the time I had a little Honda. When the Honda Civic first came out, they got incredible gas millage, this is what it looked like except mine was brown-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Civic_(first_generation)
Do you know how many hours I had to run around in that car before I needed gas? LOL
Then there was another guy who worked at the gas station, Bob. It seemed every time I went in to get my 10 dollars worth of gas ( which was a fill up) Bob would wait on me and I didn't get to see or talk to Gabe. Bob left and I saw more of Gabe.
You know how I love to bake. Around Halloween I made him pumpkin bread. It's a good recipe and everyone I made it for loved it. I found out later, Gabe hates pumpkin and gave the bread to someone else!

  2. Oh how true that Doctor's words were. Happy Anniversary to you and Gabe. I love the story about how your grandmother told you to go there. I saw the story about the couple on the news. A true love story. You and Gabe have the same kind of love. Many more years of good health and happiness.

    1. Thanks Myra, our anniversary was the beginning of the month. We ate at Gabe's favorite place. The man needs his pasta and I almost never make it.

    2. Sorry Linda, I thought I remembered your anniversary was earlier, but with my mind these days, it is one day rolls into the next. Well, belated wishes anyway. Maybe I wished you a happy anniversary then too, but don't remember...my brain is going the way of the horse and buggy.

  3. Good Morning Ladies,

Now that was a love story. They had a beautiful family and they look so happy, that brings a big smile to my face. Thanks for sharing this with us Linda. Grandmother gave you some really great advice didn't she?

Life can throw some curve balls at you but we all deal with life every day and make the best of it as long as we are healthy and have a loving family and good friends that are like family too.

  4. What a beautiful story. I'm so glad they passed so close together-one would have been lost without the other one. Such an incredible couple-so giving and caring. The world needs more people like them.

Hearing your story of how you met Gabe makes me smile. I can see you riding around in that Civic saying "come on gas gauge....GO DOWN ALREADY!" And oh that stinker Bob not letting Gabe wait on you....sheesh! What a way to find out he doesn't like pumpkin too!

Happy belated wedding anniversary to you too! We're hitting the 30 year mark this year.

  5. Happy Anniversary Linda and Gabe.. We had a couple where Larry hunted on their property. She passed away and 1 Month later He passed. My Son John's Grandparents where like that also. She Passed away and John went to the funeral with his Dad and just when they pulled out of the Driveway they found out that His Grandfather Passed away. It was like he wanted to wait until he put her to rest and then he left to join her. John's Dad kept calling his dad to let him know he was home and there was no answer . So he had the Neighbor go and check on him. He was sitting in the living room chair as he was when they left in his suit reading the paper. I feel when a loved one dies that your Soul is connected to in such a way that you go with that part of your soul to be joined as one soul again. That would be how I would want it if I were with my Soulmate. What a touching Story this was .
