IT'S "SNEAK SOME ZUCCHINI ONTO YOUR NEIGHBOR'S PORCH" DAY!

Everyone is in for a real treat next week.

                                                                          Carol is back!

She will be posting  zucchini recipes and believe me you do not want to miss any of her tasty creations!

You will want a bunch of zucchini on your porch when you see her recipes :-)

Thanks so much  Carol. The first recipe will be up on Tuesday.

Have you all heard of this "holiday"?  Here's a little history:

It was established by Tom Roy, a Pennsylvania man with what sounds like a WONDERFUL sense of humor. On this day, he encourages sharing.

“Due to the overzealous planting of zucchini, citizens are asked to drop off baskets of the squash on neighbors’ doorsteps.”

Go HERE to see some of his "Suggestions" for sharing zucchini with your neighbors...what a riot!

It's summertime here in New England and that means just one thing to me.  VEGETABLE GARDENING!  I love every part of it, even though I don't do as well as my Dad did with his gardens.  I'm sure he's looking down from heaven shaking his head every year when he watches us plant. I can hear him now..."There she goes again putting TOO MUCH STUFF in there!"  With limited space, I use every bit I can. In fact, in the past few years, we've expanded the planting and have 2 separate areas of goodies growing.

The planets must be aligned right this summer because our garden is thriving, and I mean THRIVING....so much so that the photo here is pretty much what waits for me when I go out to see what's ripe for the picking.

YIKES!  Zucchini's bustin' out all over!  We do love it-both in savory AND sweet recipes-and boy, I've got A LOT of them. I've created over 20 zucchini bread and muffin recipes in the past few years, and have an ongoing list with flavor ideas that's being added to all the time.

Linda has graciously invited me to share a few of my favorite zucchini recipes next week.  There'll be something savory that Bob and I absolutely LOVE, plus a few sweet goodies that I've created to use up some of this bounty.

I will not be going to the lengths that Tom mapped out to share zucchini-although my neighbors are probably going to be locking their doors and alarming their front steps today. Since I've been sharing zucchini with them for a few weeks, they may not want to see me sneaking onto their front porch with more. :)

See you all next week!

  1. LOL.........Yayyyyy Carol is back. I do love your stories, and this one gave me a real laugh. I can just see your neighbors locking the doors and then peering behind the curtains. I think we all tend to overdo things a bit, but I can't see where giving away veggies is a bad thing. I bet they love your baking and cooking, so you will have lots to share.

I am not a zucchini fan, but I do look forward to reading your recipes and seeing your beautiful photos. I will certainly share your recipes with all of my zucchini lovers, and they will appreciate them I am sure.

Your dad is probably so proud of you for continuing the planting, and when he shakes his head, he is just in awe of you.

    See you next week!!!

    1. Oh Myra you have NO idea....they're probably electrifying their front porches as I type just in case I try to sneak some zucchini on there! With my luck not only would I get zapped, I'd probably get sprayed by a skunk on my way home! :)

I don't like zucchini just boiled or "plain" if you will...what I love about it is it's a neutral ingredient that takes on the flavors of whatever you put with it...that's why I have so much playing.

Ohhhhhhh I don't know about my Dad being in awe....probably more like SHOCK that anything grew after I mucked it all up. Oh well....I try...and have fun in the process. That's all that matters, right? :)

  2. I wasn't a big fan of zucchini either until I was an adult. I love it now because there are so many ways to prepare it & boy does Carol have fantastic ideas! I can't wait to see what you've come up with Carol. I like the way your mind works. You go from sweet to savory & everything looks wonderful.

  3. Looking forward to your yummy recipes, Carol! I don't have a garden but I am sure my gardening neighbour will likely have some to share. Made a chocolate zucchini cake for my grand daughter a few days ago. She may well be my taste tester when I try out some of your recipes. LOL See you next week.

    1. If you didn't have snow, Gabe might consider it. He said he never wants to see another flake of snow!

  5. I have someone that puts fresh vegies on my doorstep. I lost my backyard neighbor that always shared his garden. He was such a sweet gentleman.
