Frosty Paws

Yes, I know Max is spoiled. It's getting difficult to find Frosty Paws in any grocery store- here (NY) or Florida.

Myra sent me this recipe ages ago. A few weeks ago Cyndy sent me the same one that was on Pinterest!

Aldi now has a store in Riverhead, which is 45 minutes from our home. I usually don't shop in Aldi's but I wanted more avocados for Chocolate Peanut Butter Avocado Pudding which I'm SO addicted to.

Picked up 32 ounces of yogurt- to make this for Max.

This is such a simple recipe. Everything goes into the food processor. Wham, bam and it done.

Ingredients:

32 ounces plain yogurt

3 banana's

1/2 cup  Peanut Butter

1/4 cup honey

Directions:

Add the whole 32 ounces of yogurt, bananas, peanut butter and honey to a food processor and blend until smooth

I bet you wondering- what do I put this in? Some people use ice cube trays and some buy little plastic containers .

Me? I'm super frugal. I used my old Greek yogurt containers. Wash them and if you want add them to the dishwasher on the TOP shelf.

When containers are dry fill them with the Frosty Paw mixture.

Max has 4 in the freezer.

He sure loves his new homemade treat!

Health note:  Max does not eat a lot of peanut butter and I usually give him a Frosty Paw once a week. Amanda reminded me in her comment that " SOME peanut butter manufacturers are starting to use Xylitol, an artificial sweetener, to sweeten their peanut butters. Xylitol is very toxic to dogs, causing their body to over produce insulin and causing severe hypoglycemia. Just be sure to always check the ingredients in the peanut butter you buy" which is something I always do.

  1. Ohhhhhh LOOK at him with is few favorite treat-puppy ice cream! What a great idea making it yourself too-at least YOU know what's in it.

That will cool him off on a hot summer day and will be perfect for the heat in Florida too.

So how did you like Aldi's? I love that store....I just wish it wasn't so out of the way for me. Of course you have to know your prices, which I KNOW you do....there's quite a few things I can get cheaper than my regular grocery store there.

  2. That's so awesome, and so was the post of your hubby's diving retrieval - that lobster was HUGE! Indeed, Max is a spoiled one - rightfully so.

    1. Hi Rita- wasn't that lobster amazing? Usually they hide but this one was just walking on the deck of a wreck. Gabe grabbed him but didn't bring his bag so had to be very careful going back up with it!

  3. The girls love frosty paws and I can see Max is enjoying his. Yes, he does deserve to be spoiled. Mine are spoiled rotten and I can't help myself..... :) It's been so darned hot here and I have just 2 containers left. Dr put Bully on a diet so I've been rationing her treats. Max can have Bully's portion.

  4. Looks like Max is having a great treat. This recipe makes alot, and for those who do buy Frosty Paws, it can be expensive. I also save my containers. Lately I have been addicted to chocolate water ice, so I use them to freeze treats for Chase. Another good idea is to put some shredded chicken in a container and then put some water and freeze. Chase loves his icee chicken...a bit less fattening than the Yogurt, but I have been really trying to keep his weight down due to the arthritis in his legs and the extra weight doesn't help. Not doing such a great job, but trying.

I have never been in an Aldi's. We do have some around here, but have never been in one. Will have to check it out.

Hope all the doggies enjoy their treats, they deserve them as much as we do.

    1. LOL Kathleen- you know where the extra frosty paws went that didn't fit in the yogurt containers? In a nice large spoon and I enjoyed it! Was really good, no wonder Max loves it.

  6. I CAN'T believe that you don't shop Aldi very much!!! (or for those of you who have NEVER!) Aldi is my lifeline!!! True, you don't get find much in the way of "brand names" but believe me when I say - YOU DO NOT NEED THEM!!! Almost everything at Aldi is made by the same companies that make our "brand name" products, but because it's "made exclusively for Aldi" it's anywhere from 25 - 50 % less!!! I do 90% of my monthly grocery shopping at Aldi. The ONLY product that I've tried at Aldi that I wasn't happy with was their "Hawaiian rolls." Aside from that everything else is AS GOOD OR BETTER than so called "brand name." When you live on a fixed income, every single penny counts and if it weren't for Aldi's my husband and I wouldn't be able to eat. So anyone who doesn't (or NEVER has) shop at Aldi, I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you at least try it!!! Just don't forget to have a QUARTER with you, cause you'll need it to get a cart/buggy, and TAKE YOUR OWN BAGS.

    1. Hi Lora- I live on the east end of Long Island. There is ONE large grocery store that is close to me and the prices would make your head spin.

As mentioned we drive to Riverhead which is 45 minutes from our house. Aldi is new to the area.

I always bring bags so that isn't a big thing but forget to bring change!

In Florida we also don't have an ALDI. there is one in Tampa but that's almost 2 hours from our house so you know that isn't going to work for us.

You are so lucky to have one close by!

  7. Wow, my lab Sadie will love this! BTW, if you ever get to shop at a Wegmans grocery store, I do think they have Frosty Paws.

    1. Sinea- I knew you would like this one!

No Wegmans in my area or in Florida. It's a upstate grocery store,

My friend Mary has a house in Syracuse and shops there all the time. She brings me Grandma Browns Baked Beans which I can't buy on Long Island.

  10. I've never given my dogs Frosty Paws but I do make my dog flavored ice cubes pretty regularly. I have this handy tray that makes little bone-shaped cubes and they love it! I'll have to try this. (Stopping by from Mom's Small Victories)

    1. Little bone shaped cubes! I have to check that out on amazon.

Frosty paws came in little paper cups. The empty yogurt container are larger then the original serving so I only give Max one a week.

He lost some of his Florida fat and one is plenty for my couch potato!

      Hope your pup likes it.
