Save money on Oxyclean & Magic Eraser

It's been awhile since I have shared some frugal tips. Found these and I wanted to pass them along.

Oxyclean is just sodium percarbonate with filler added. You can buy sodium percarbonate directly from amazon that is much more concentrated and cost efficient.

Magic Eraser-They're just melamine sponges. You can order hundreds for like 8 dollars. Magic Erasers has some kind of cleaning product in them since it creates a sort of "foam" when you wet it and start scrubbing. It's actually when wet, the melamine will start to break down. The fine substance yields a slight abrasive content.

The cheaper ones are usually a lot less dense. That means they wear out quickly. They work just as well though, and it's still a much better deal in terms of amount cleaned per dollar.

Here are a few links if you would like to get some

  1. I love frugal tips. I use Oxyclean all the time to soak my white curtains in before washing....never read the back of the tub-that'll teach me!

I've never tried the Magic Erasers...I'm one of the dumb clucks that uses a scrubber and elbow grease. :)

  2. I have tried Magic Erasers, but didn't see what the big deal was. Only used Oxyclean when my son used to come home with greasy clothes. I don't use it much anymore.

I enjoy your Frugal tips, many of them have been put to use.

  3. I like your frugal tips, Linda. I don't use either product very often but still good idea to know where one can purchase the items at a more reasonable price.

A tip I saw on FB was for putting a sheet if Bounce etc. into a pot of water to loosen burnt/baked areas in a pyrex dish. Tried it the other night and it actually seemed to work or I have a very active imagination! LOL
